How to take a screenshot on your iPhone or Android device






Capturing a screenshot on your mobile device is a good way to share what you see on your screen with others.  Get something ready on your device screen that you want to capture, and then follow these instructions for either your iPhone or Android device.

iPhone

  1. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button, then immediately press and release the Home button.  The Sleep/Wake button is on the side of the iPhone 6, and on the top on earlier models.  Please note that if you are taking a screenshot of the lock screen; don’t press the Home button for too long as the Touch ID functionality may unlock your phone before you get the chance to take the screenshot.
  2. You will see the screen flash, and if the phone isn’t in silent mode you will hear the the camera shutter indicating that the screenshot was successful.

If you then want to view and share a screenshot with someone you can do the following:

  1. Open the Photos app, and the screenshot that you have taken will have been saved automatically to the Camera Roll album.
  2. From a photo album view showing all the photo thumbnails, you can press the Select button (top right), and then select the photos that you want to send.
  3. Press the Share icon button (bottom left) and then select the sharing method such as Mail to send the screenshots via email.

Android

There are different ways you can take a screenshot on Android devices, and depending on the device model the method varies.

Screenshot method one:

  1. Press and hold the Power/Lock button and the Volume Down button for 1-2 seconds.   This is the case for most devices, but on some you might need to press and hold the Power/Lock button and the Home button for 1-2 seconds instead.  Please note this is for devices running Android 4.0 and up.
  2. You may see a copy of your screen display shrink into a frame, and you may also see the screen flash and hear a camera shutter sound indicating that the screenshot was successful.  If you have notifications turned on, you should see a screenshot notification in the notification bar.

Screenshot method two:

  1. Press and hold the Power/Lock button for 1-2 seconds until the Power Options screen appears
  2.  If the option is available select Take a Screenshot.  Please note, the screenshot will capture whatever is on the screen behind this menu.
  3. You may see a copy of your screen display shrink into a frame, and you may also see the screen flash and hear a camera shutter sound indicating that the screenshot was successful.  If you have notifications turned on, you should see a screenshot notification in the notification bar.

If you then want to view and share a screenshot with someone you can do the following:

  1. Tap the screenshot notification to view the screenshot, or alternatively open the Gallery app, then open the Screenshots album.
  2. Select an image to perform one of the share actions that are available on your device.
